Gun Control with Jay Nathwani
In this episode I continue my series on gun control, interviewing Toronto lawyer Jay Nathwani, author of CBC article "Latest gun control effort isn't merely a failure it corrodes trust among Canadians" (May 2020).
In his article, Jay says that the recent Canadian assault-rifle ban, following the mass shooting in Nova Scotia earlier this year, introduces an inconsistent patchwork of regulations on over 1,000 specific gun types rather than outlawing dangerous capabilities. Because of the loopholes and lack of objectivity this legislation is seen by gun enthusiasts as partisan virtue signaling.
He goes on to state, "A healthy democracy relies on citizens believing that they will not be treated unfairly if their side loses an election. We should not be putting that trust at risk. It's not too much to ask that firearms laws be made on the basis of evidence and reason". I agree Jay!
