Nuclear: the facts as I see them
To stop climate change, scientists indicate we need to get to net zero carbon dioxide emissions in less than ten years. Despite their amazing strides, renewable energy sources are not the panacea that their supporters are claiming. Due to their low density, significant mining and waste is generated to build up any significant generating capacity. Because of their intermittent nature, they usually require backup generating capacity to level the load, and this is often supplied by coal or gas. Nuclear energy, on the other hand, is a high density zero carbon energy source with over 90% availability that is widely reviled in society. On what basis have you formed your opinions of the risks surrounding nuclear energy? Would you be open to changing your mind on Nuclear if presented with evidence of safety?

(cont'd) asking us to change our ways to preserve our future, not just a minority group called "the environmentalists". All children would ask for it. Just go to any five year old kid and ask them if they prefer to live in a forest with trees and lakes or in a barren desert and you will get the honest answer there. I'd love some response to my long thread 😊

Isn't the vast majority of our population asking us to change our ways to preserve our beautiful planet for our beautiful children and grandchildren? Why would you want to place that responsibility of asking for a better future in the hands of a few "environmentalists"? And to be frank, I don't even know what is meant by that word: "environmentalists"... Who is that? Is it a particular group of people? What group would that be? I believe my point is clear: MOST people are asking us to chang

(cont'd) to stop destroying our planet. They are the ones who will live in a miserable place just because we enjoy coffee tables made from rare woods, and because we enjoy the roar of gasoline engines, and flying across the world several times per year, and eating too much food that needs big monocultural fields and destructive machinery etc... Think about it: why do you say that only a minority of "environmentalists" are asking us to change our ways? Isn't that actually false?

(cont'd) and option to just ignore what "the environmentalists" and trehuggers, and socialists, and leftists are saying. That word just makes it way too easy to dismiss the arguments just because of the divisiveness of the country into various political groupings. Actually, when you think about it, it is not "the environmentalists" who are asking us to change our ways, it is our children and our grandchildren and future generations who are not born yet that are asking us to stop destroying the e

(Oops, I ran out if digits, so I'll just continue here) Here goes: about 04:30 into this podcast you say "what environmentalists ask of us...". I believe it is a big mistake to use stereotypical words to describe that there is some group of other people, "the environmentalists", that are asking us, "the regular and normal people", to change our behaviour which we do not really want to change. This just gives fuel to the old them and us feud, and gives unnecessary option for namecalling and opti

Thanks for a podcast with reasons instead of opinions and falsehoods. However, I would like to point something out which I have noticed. A very small detail, but a detail which could possibly make a very large difference. And I have seen this very small detail sneak into many many important contexts in many different debates, and I believe it could be detrimental to getting to the truth and getting to an actual fruitful discussion. By now you must be thinking, spill it dude! So I will, here go
